One Liners and Under 5s

Every actor loves sinking their teeth into a nice meaty scene that gives them plenty to play with. But have you ever gotten an audition that was just a line or two and thought “What the hell can I do with that?”.

Sometimes simplicity throws us a curve ball, because how can you create a  powerful (and memorable) performance that is over just as soon as it starts? And how much are you supposed to do with it in the first place?

These questions come up all the time when I teach my classes. They can be a challenge for actors and ALL of us have to deal with them at some point in our careers.

There is a fine balance to these little auditions and this week’s video will help you find it!

I’d love to hear from you. What was YOUR most challenging one liner audition, and what function did your character serve in that scene?

Let me know in the comments below and feel free to post any questions or suggestions for future topics!
